JRS Survival Guitar Lesson 3: The Minor Scale

minorsclWell, let’s get down to it. The second Survival Scale you need is the Minor Scale.

Click on Minor Scale to hear a midi file example.

The Minor Scale is shown here, arranged to span two octaves on the guitar.

This is the next important scale to learn. The Minor scale will sound very familiar to you, just as the Major Scale did. Most people describe its sound as sad.

The Minor Scale has as many uses as the Major scale. It’s important to learn both, because they allow you to create contrasts in your music. Happy and sad. Light and dark. You get the idea.

Enough talk. Memorize this thing, just like you memorized the Major scale. In lesson #4, I’ll show you how to use it.
